ok here is the rockman movie for our sfx project if we have time we might do some last minute adjustments as the camera shake isnt really working how i want it. but this will do for now.

I have been playing around with the lighting in the canteen and finally im happy with it. only problem is it takes 6 minutes to render a frame....

compositing and laser test

for the short sfx project where a statue of bush gets killed by a lamp my role was to light and render the objects to match the scene and then composite it together. This is also a first attempt at making a laser which still needs work.

Enter the spitfire

For our rockman vid we decided it would be cool to have a spitfire burst into the scene and take him down. here is the first test for having the spitfire enter the scene.


Its all coming together!!!

We recently merged the character into the morgue to see that everything was lining up correctly. here is the result and another one with abit of tweaking in after effects..

focus and particles

To give the impression that the rockman is close to the camera I have burred him abit to make him appear out of focus. I also realised that the particles for the second step were infront of the first step particles so I have corrected this. I have also noticed that the shadow is wrong as eb and daves shadows go to the left so I will have to correct this also.

foot prints

i have been trying to figure out how to make it appear like the rock man is making dents in the ground as he walks and so far this is what iv come up with. the problem is he looks like hes walking through snow so some refinments are needed.

Unfortunatly the morgue which i textured and lit in 3dsmax isnt going to be compatable with the rig eb is using to animate. This meant that I would have to redo it all in maya and fast! heres my attempt so far...

tweaking

When I watched it back I could see that something wasn't right so and I realised I hadn't turned the shadow on. so here the version with he shadow and also I changed the opacity to give the impression the rockman is getting closer. Not sure if I mentioned but the rockman was made by ebnelkim you can check out his blog in my list of artists on the right.

Today I put ebs rockman into the scene but unfortunatly there was a giant lens flare on the footage so it looks a little strange wheen they ren down hill. anyway heres the result

Daves idea is to have a jack in the box killed by a lamp for being annoying here is the idea and a tracking test

Boat sinking 1st attempt

ok so the idea is that eb throws a stone and it hits a boat making it sink. Being an after effects noob i threw this together.. feel free to laugh or cry

Composite test

I wanted to know that I would be able to create the same effect in the video of the canteen as i did with the picture so i rendered out a quick flythrough and using after effects was able to get pretty close using colour correction and enhancing the atmosphere layer.

after that i took it into photoshop to adjust it and get enhance the atmosphere using various layers.

probably doesnt look much but the slight tweaks make it alot more atmospheric the only trouble is you cant really tell with the poor quality online but here it is anyway:

composting is something which i havent yet tried so i made multiple passes of the canteen gun scene and put them together in after effect just to tweak the image. here are the passes

So having learned how to use rayfire to create the machine gun i decided to test it out on the concept canteen i made and heres the result:

Adding Enviroment

I then put it into photoshop for abit of tweaking.



Just to see how the creature would look in a scene i added a quick room and adjusted the lighting.

Eb told me he thought the creature looked "too cute" so i gave it more of an mean streak.

Once I had done this i decided to add some textures just to get more of a feel for the creature but i got abit carried away.
